A beautiful breeze for your Habits

Don’t set goals, set habits. I read this somewhere on TikTok and it resonated wildly with me.

Over the course of my life, I have set all manner of goals. Some reasonable, some crazy. Some hilarious. Going by some of those goals, I was supposed to have become a millionaire by now. I was also supposed to be running 100 kilometers every week. You should have read several of my bestselling books by now. I should also have planted RoseWilly Forest by now, named after my mum Rose and dad Willy. To borrow a phrase from my sister Liz, ‘I love them to the moon and back.’

None of the above goals has come to fruition yet. This hasn't stopped me from doubling down and setting even more goals. Each time I set a new goal and visualize it, my spirit is set on fire. For days, that goal races through my veins and triggers requisite action. Then the fire dies down and the goal settles into hard ice. As such, the message below is as important for me as it is for you:

For every goal you set, set little habits that will eventually translate into the realization of that goal.

James Clear, the Author of bestselling book, ‘Atomic Habits’ says that, “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”

You attract who you are, not what you aspire for. Habits build who you are.
