Consistency Delivers Victory I will run the first kilometer in less than 5:20 minutes. I will then run the second kilometer in less than 5:40 minutes. These two resolutions were ringing in my mind as I slipped on my purple running top and marched out of the house into the biting cold of a July morning.

Keep running “Mambo!” I had seen him from the corner of my eye since I was hurtling down the road. It took a few moments to register that he was talking to me. “Can I run with you?” he asked with a smile. He as carrying a small bag under his arms. It was like a man purse.
Could you walk a bit slower please? The plump lady told me. Seconds earlier, she had looked sideways at me and given me a smiling look. I wondered if I knew her from somewhere. Turns out she was afraid of the guy behind her.

Believe it or not, ultimately, inner peace is a choice No sooner had I stepped out of my gate into the stinging cold of 5AM than I came face to face with him. He was standing right there, waiting for me with his usual mystical smile.
Sometimes the body simply refuses to cooperate During the second kilometer, my legs refused to cooperate. I had intended to run the first kilometer in less than six minutes. I had visualized it the previous night.
Will my feet be able to slam into the ground and complete the 11,400 steps it usually takes me to run for 11.5 kilometers? I am feeling sickish. Its the 1.23 AM Sunday. 17th May.

At Kamuti’s Butchery, the usual starting line of my morning run, I fish out my black Samsung phone and click on mapmywalk, my running app.

4.15AM, 9th April 2020. Crazy. I thought as the cold breeze whipped my body. Totally crazy. I had run for only 200 meters on Rhino Stretch but my legs were already out of breath. So I slowed down and started walking.
