What's the way forward for Liberia?

The results of Liberia’s elections will either inch Africa forward or drag it back. That’s because governance is infectious. That’s why coup d’etats have spread across West and Central Africa over the last couple of years.

If Liberians elect a President a President with the best track record, and not just one with the best name recognition or fattest wallet, that attitude will begin to reverberate across Africa. An attitude of shunning big names for big minds and big hearts.

Leaders whose hearts truly care for the people and whose minds have revolutionary solutions.

It will be quite unfortunate if Liberia’s presidential contest turns out to be a rematch between incumbent President George Weah and former Vice President, Joseph Boakai. That’s because under George Weah, poverty has increased from 46.7% in 2017 to 64 percent today.

As for former Vice President, Joseph Boakai, he was second in command in former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration. A regime that also failed to stem the tide of poverty. Can he be trusted to deliver economic revolution as president? Can a leopard change its spots?

It would be presumptuous and arrogant of me to tell Liberians how to vote. All I can say is that I pray you will vote for someone with a big track record, a big heart, a big mind and not just a big name. Africa is counting on you to do so.
